General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls of approximately 13' 3" to the ground below, thereby exposing employees to multiple fsractures and possible death: a) On or about 9/29/92, beneath the Paul Road bridge over I490, Eastbound Lanes. Employee working on catenary scaffold was exposed to falls due to an unsecured safety belt and lanyard. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to enforce the use of safety belts and static lines by all employees working on catenary scaffolds 10 feet or more above the ground or floor, as stipulated by Paragraph 20.6 of ANSI A10.8-1988.
