General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to be struck by the discharge end of and/or be sprayed by hot water from the hightemperature, high-pressure cleaning hoses in the kill room. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to equip the hoses with a constant-pressure("deadman") device to interrupt the flow of water if the operator loses control of the hose. Also, install a safety valve to stop the flow of water in the event of a surge or hose and/or fitting failure.
