Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: When adjusting the 6-ton die from one level to the next level on the External Arch Machine, employees are exposed to the hazard of being struck by a falling object. Employees are required to get under the die to knock the pins out with a hammer. Means of abatement include but not limited to: (1) Provide a blocking device used to prevent employees from being hit on the head or struck when there is faulty equipment or slack in the cable. (2) Train employees on the safe operation procedures of handling the equipment.
