Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to flammable liquids or gases that were stored or in use at
the immediate area.
(a)At the pier/dock area - Fire extinguishers were not inspected or
maintained and
documented at least monthly.  Salamatof Seafoods, Inc. provides petroleum
services to the local commercial fishermen and the employer is required to
have
adequate fire extinguishers in number and suitable for the hazard.  These
extinguishers shall be located in the immediate area where containers
containing
flammable liquids or gases are stored or in use.  Such extinguishers shall
be ready
for use at all times.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard would be to maintain and inspect the fire extinguishers at
least
monthly and document the inspections.
