Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed protruding concrete wall snap-ties that were not removed immediately following the removal of the concrete form systems, therefore creating puncture hazards and eye injuries to employees installing the shoring system for the first floor. (a) Location: Basement Area Walls: Employees were exposed to eye injuries and puncture hazards while working without immediate removal of protruding concrete wall snap-ties. One abatement method would be to remove the wall snap-ties from the concrete wall immediately after the wall systems and the concrete has cured sufficiently for this work.
