Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in the form of being struck by falling materials in that employees were exposed to: NYLON SLINGS, BEING USED TO HOIST SHARP EDGED BAR JOIST INTO POSITION, WITHOUT PROTECTIVE PADS INSTALLED TO PREVENT CUT THROUGH. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD WOULD BE TO USE TWO WIRE ROPE SLINGS AT EITHER END OF THE BAR JOIST WITH PROTECTIVE PADDING MATERIAL INSTALLED TO PREVENT SLING CUT THROUGH WHEN LIFTING OR MOVING THE BAR JOIST MATERIAL.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in the form of unstable loads striking employees that were exposed to: "CHRISTMAS TREEING" OR TANDEM LIFTING OF UNAUTHORIZED LOADS IN THAT BUNDLES OF BAR JOIST WERE CONNECTED ONE ABOVE THE OTHER WITH VARYING NUMBERS OF 4,8,& 2 JOIST, TOP TO BOTTOM, WITH NYLON SLINGS REPLACING REQUIRED WIRE ROPE SLINGS. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO ABATE THE HAZARD WOULD BE TO USE THE STANDARD METHOD OF BAR JOIST ERECTION AND PLACEMENT UTILIZING PADDED WIRE ROPE SLINGS(FOR THIS CASE) AT OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE BAR JOIST CONNECTED TO SPREADERS ATTACHED TO THE CRANE'S LOAD HOOK.

ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED "WARNINGS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.
