THE ALLEGED VIOLATIONS BELOW (1a, 1b AND 1c) HAVE BEEN GROUPED BECAUSE THEY INVOLVE SIMILAR OR RELATED HAZARDS THAT MAY INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY AND/OR ILLNESS. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an injury from an unintended activation of the foot pedal which was not protected by the guard: (a) Plywood Department - The employee operating the Nels J. Billstrom Glue Wheel was exposed to rotating metal clamps. No means was provided to protect the foot pedal from unintended activation by falling or moving objects or by someone accidentally stepping on it, on or about March 12, 1993. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a foot pedal guard. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operators and other employees from hazards created by: (a) Plywood Department - The employee operating the News J. Billstrom Glue Wheel was exposed to rotating metal clamps. No means was provided to protect the foot pedal from unintended activation by falling or moving objects or by someone accidentally stepping on it, on or about March 12, 1993.
