General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: On or about August 1,1995, through August 10,1995, employees were exposed to the hazard of falling in that employees were being elevated by the Lull Hylander lift to the Morgan scaffold platform located on the north side of the building. Employees standing on a wood pallet which was being raised by the forks of the Lull Hylander to heights of approximately 15' to 20'. Employees were not protected from the fall hazard through the use of standard railing or the equivalent nor was the pallet secured to the lifting carriage. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to provide a safety platform with standard railing and toeboards firmly secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks.
