General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to serious lacerations, broken bones and death, which may result if chipper wheel breaks apart and shatters case. Saw Mill, Morbark Chipper Model 58 Serial # 510: The wheel that holds the chipper knives has developed a second crack. This new cracks had not been repaired, which may result in serious injuries to employees who are required to work in the surrounding area. One feasible means of abatement would be to clean out the area of the crack and to fill the crack with appropriate welding material.
