General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential explosion of the bench grinder abrasive wheel. A)On the work bench in the filing room the Milwaukee bench grinder, Serial # W11-95, 1/3 hp, 3450 rpm, had evidence of side grinding on the abrasive wheel. Employees are exposed to serious injury or death in the event of the abrasive wheel exploding while grinding on the side of the wheel. A feasible method to abate this hazard is to instruct employees to not grind on the side of the wheel, to post a sign forbidding side grinding and to explain to employees the potential for serious harm or death in the event of an exploding wheel.ing
