Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: WORKSHOP: 1. The open sided conveyor belts, such as (but not limited to) PR5-1 and PR2-3 on which employees had to walk/work to perform various tasks, such as (but not limited to) securing conveyors, performing maintenance and servicing conveyors, collecting packages/boxes, putting envelopes into totes and cleaning conveyors were not guarded by standard railing systems or equivalent to protect the employees from the hazards of falling onto the platform, floor and/or lower levels. 2. The open sided conveyor belts, such as (but not limited to) PR5-1/PR2-3 which were located at adjacent to and/or above other conveyor belts and on which employees had to walk/work to perform various tasks listed on the Item No 1 above were not guarded by standard railing systems or equivalent to protect the employees from the hazards of falling onto the conveyors that were carrying various materials. 3. The "railing system" installed on the open sided PR4-1 conveyor belt/platform, which was located at adjacent/over the conveyor belt PR3-1 and on which employees had to walk/work to perform various tasks listed on the Item No 1 above was missing the intermediate mid rail. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards is to: 1. Install standard railing or equivalent on the open sided conveyor belts. 2. Follow the guidelines set forth by 29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1), 1910.23(c)(3) and 1910.23(e)(1) for the Item No 1, 2 and Item No 3, respectively.. 3. Follow the requirements set forth by the American National Safety Institute's Safety Standards for Conveyors and Related Equipment (ANSI B20.1 - 1976, section 5.09.2.3.).
