Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A. THE HAZARD OF FIRES SPREADING FROM THE DUCTWORK OF THE FUME EXHAUST SYSTEMS ON THE FCM MACHINES TO THE REST OF THE FACILITY. FEASIBLE METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD, AMONG OTHER METHODS, WOULD BE TO PERFORM PERIODIC AND THOROUGH CLEANING OF THE DUCTWORK ON A BI-MONTHLY SCHEDULE TO PREVENT BUILD-UP OF IGNITABLE DUST AND VAPOR CONDENSATE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DUCTWORK. IN ADDITION, AIR VELOCITY INSIDE THE DUCTWORK SHOULD BE MAINTAINED AT 4500 FPM IN ORDER TO TRANSPORT THE VAPOR-MOISTENED PARTICULATE TO THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM. SPRINKLER HEADS INSIDE THE DUCTWORK AND DUST COLLECTOR SHOULD BE CLEANED AND MAINTAINED SO THAT THEY ARE OPERABLE WHEN CALLED UPON.
