Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads and/ or chemicals: a)High Temperature Caustic Area, on or about 7/21/98: One Electric Chain Hoist was not provided with an operational hook latch. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: Provide an operational hook latch for the hook as per ASME/ANSI B30.16-1987, chapter 16-1.2.9.
