Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: a) At Owens Illinois of PR, Batch House on the second floor there was an eyewash station and the nozzles were not protected from airborne contamination, unit was not activated weekly to flush the line and verify the proper use of the emergency eyewash unit. Also, eyewash was not kept clean. Employee performed different tasks during their working hours, that involves the use of different chemical products such as silica, aluminiumoxid, salt cake, soda-ash, among others. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct this hazard is: 1. Install caps to nozzles to protect them from airborne contaminants. The removal of such protection shall not require a separate motion by the employee when activating the unit. 2. Eyewash unit shall be activated weekly to flush the line and verify proper operation. 3. Clean eyewash station so in case of an emergency can be used. a) En Owens Illinois de PR, "Batch House" segundo piso habia una estacion de lavado de ojos donde las boquillas del lavado de ojos no estaban protegidas de contaminantes en el aire, la unidad no fue activada semanalmente de modo que se limpiara la linea y confirmar que estaba operando correctamente. Tambien la estacion de lavado de ojos no se mantuvo limpia. Empleado realizaba diferentes tareas durante su jornada de trabajo que envuelve el uso de productos quimicos tales como silica, aluminiumoxid, salt cake, soda-ash, entre otros. Un metodo de correcion viable y aceptable entre otros metodos para corregir el riesgo es: 1. Instalar las tapas a las boquillas del lavado de ojos para protegerlas de contaminantes en el aire, dicha proteccion no debe requerir un movimiento separado por el empleado cuando active la unidad. 2. Estacion de lavado de ojos debe ser activada semanalmente para que se limpie la linea y verificar que esta este operando correctamente. 3. Limpiar la estacion de lavado de ojos de modo que en caso de una emergencia pueda ser usada.ncia

He was standing on the railing approximately 20 feet above the floor checking an electric cable that was making contact, and was not using any fall protection. One feasible and acceptable abatement method among others, to correct this hazard is: 1. Use of a free standing ladder supported scaffold and wear a body belt/harness. 2. Train employees with respect to personal protective equipment and the importance of using it. a)En Owens Illinois, Torre de Mezcla Planta de Vega Alta, mecanico electricista estaba trabajando en los filtros de polvo, situado en la azotea. El estaba parado en la baranda que estaba aproximadamente a 20 pies del piso verificando unos cables electricos que estaban haciendo contacto y no estaba usando proteccion contra caidas. Un metodo de correccion viable y aceptable entre otros, para corregir el riesgo es: 1. Usar "free standing ladder supported scaffold" y usar un arnes de cuerpo. 2. Adiestrar a los empleados con respecto al equipo de proteccion personal y la importancia del uso del mismo.ancia
