Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a.)The employer did not adequately maintain eye wash stations within the work place. The stations were not maintained or checked monthly according to manufactures' guidelines. The last recorded checks were in October of 2005. This condition exposed employees to the possibility of not having an operational eye wash when needed. Possible injury and illness could result in the form of; eye irritation, chronic vision impairment and permanent loss of vision. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods in correcting this hazard is to: maintain the eye wash stations according to manufactures' guidelines.Document and make monthly eye wash checks. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
