Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or was likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electrical shock, burns or electrocution where exposure to the potential use of ungrounded electrical appliances in a wet/damp location. The following condition contributed to this hazard: (a)M/V New West - In the women's bathroom/restroom, the electrical outlet located above the sink was not protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) at its location. Protection for this outlet was not provided by a GFCI type circuit breaker at the control panel. One feasible and useful method of abatement, among others, would be to replace the existing outlet with a GFCI receptacle.
