Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of electrical shock, burn or
electrocution by contact
with unguarded energized lamp components and/or through the potential use
of ungrounded
electrical appliances while in a wet or damp location. The following
condition contributed to
the existence of this hazard:
a) M/V SnoPac: Mid deck head, The energized duplex electrical outlet
located directly above
the sink was not protected by a Ground-Fault-Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) at
either the outlet
or at the electrical panel.
Note: One feasible and useful method of abatement, among others, would be
to install a
GFCI type receptacle at this location.
b) M/V SnoPac: Mid deck head, The light fixture located directly above the
sink was
missing its cover and the light bulb. The lamp socket was energized.
Note: One feasible method of abatement, among others, is to install a new
light bulb into the
socket and to replace the fixture cover.
