Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that:
On or about November 3, 1997 employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of
being struck by
and/or caught in-between attic trusses.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to
prohibit the practice of leaning unbanded trusses in an upright position
unless braced or
supported to prevent toppling or tipping as outlined in Truss Plate
Institute Document
HIB-91 Summary Sheet, Commentary and Recommendations for Handling,
Installing,
and Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses.
Another acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all
employees are
effectively kept outside of the falling zone of trusses that may be kept
in an upright
position.
