Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by rotating spindle blades: a) SOK bldg., molding area; The training program for operators of the Weinig molding machines was inadequate in that it did not meet the requirements specified in ANSI O 1.1-1992, the standard for woodworking machinery. Employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of being struck by rotating spindle blades. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to ensure that molding machine operators receive the instructions and training specified in ANSI O 1.1-1992 as well as the manufacturer's operating instructions and safety manual. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by rotating spindle blades: a) SOK bldg., molding area; The employer did not establish and follow a maintenance and inspection program for the Weinig molding machines that met the requirements specified in paragraph 6.1.4 of ANSI O 1.1-1992, the standard for woodworking machinery. Employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of being struck by rotating spindle blades. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to establish and follow a preventive maintenance program for the molding machines that includes scheduled maintenance, periodic operational/safety inspections, and maintenance of inspection and repair records. The employer shall meet the guidelines specified in ANSI O 1.1-1992 as well as the manufacturer's operating instructions and safety manual. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
