Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling from a conveyor: a) Warehouse: Employees walk on an unguarded conveyor belt and were exposed to the hazard of a fall of approximately 12 feet from the material conveyor to the concrete warehouse floor. Among other means two feasible and acceptable abatement methods are to 1 - Utilize platforms designed for use in elevating personnel with forklifts. 2 - Instruct employees that walking on conveyor belts is prohibited. Violation observed on or about 12/13/99.
