Section 5(a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment or a place of employment which was free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to the hazard of falling product from overhead conveyors:
Packages are subject to falling off, as a result of not being loaded
properly or being
knocked off by moving, powered industrial trucks, from the unguarded
portions of
overhead conveyors and chutes in the following locations:
1)Overhead conveyor over walkway, Semi-Bulk area
2)Overhead conveyor, UPS area, near dock doors #87 & #88.
2)Overhead conveyor and attached chutes, retail stores loading area, near
dock
doors #84 to #1.
Feasible methods of abatement include:
1)Installation of basket or pan guards in compliance with ASME B20.1,
Standard
for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
2)Installation of net guards, similar to those in other areas of the
facility.
3)Raise height of sides of chutes and conveyors.
