Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to crushing hazards:
a) Slitting Area - The Demag, 2 speed electric hoist rated for 2 1/2 Tons
is supported
by a jib beam rated at 500 Lbs. The ANSI B30.16-1973, section 16-2.1.3.6
states
Supporting structure, including trolleys, monorail, crane, if any , shall
have a load at
least equal to that of the hoist.
ABATEMENT NOTE: One means of abatement would be to utilize a hoist rated
for
500lbs.
NOTE: ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

electric 2 1/2
Ton hoist was not marked with the required rated load. The ANSI B30.20A-
1987,
section 20-1.2(a) states The rated load of the lifting device shall be
marked on the main
structure where it is visible.
b) Milnor & Bleigh Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19136 - The below the hook
lifting devices
utilized to move steel coils or sheet were not being inspected
periodically with records
being kept. The test report from the initial rated load test was not
available.
ABATEMENT NOTE: One means of abatement would be to comply with the ANSI
B30.20a-1987.
NOTE: ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
