Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket: (a)At the Job-Site/East Parking Lot - An employee was observed removing a wire midway up a parking lot light pole 32ft high while operating the controls of a Self Propelled JLG Lift Rough Terrain Truck with an Articulating Boom and Platform, Model #GOH46, Serial #025214; Personal Fall Arrest equipment full body harness & lanyard! was available but was not being worn; On or about 10/4/99. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992-Boom Supported Elevating Work Platforms,section 8.8 states: "Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times". ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19.
