Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that were exposed to: a. Re-melt (cast house) Dept - On or about February 21, 2000, employees were exposed to injuries associated with molten metal when the furnace was being charged with wet scrap. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Provide training and/or re-training relating to INDALEX standard operating procedures for charging furnace for all supervisors and furnace operators working in the remelt/furnace department, and maintain training records. Also, review standard operating procedures periodically.
