Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms, when loaded with a vehicle, falling on and crushing employees as the locking device would not engage. 19th & Frederick, St. Joseph, MO: The safety latch on the first Globe automotive lift, and the sixth Globe automotive lift would not engage. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair or replace the safety latch, or find another device to prevent free and unrestricted motion of the Globe lift in case of hydraulic line failure. Abatement certification is required for this item - use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.
