Labor and Employment Article, Section 5 - 104(a) Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:02/08/00 Location:Warehouse Condition:Wood slats, 5/8" thick, by 5" wide, by 34" long used to support the stock were not capable of supporting, without failure, the weight of an employee. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to place permanent plaques throughout rack installations having the permissible unit load and warning, in clear and legible print, prohibiting employees from climbing onto and into the racks. Develop and implement a safety program for the use of steel storage racks. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
