Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: in that employees were subject to bruises, fractures, strains, and sprains while carrying boxes down ladders without holding onto the ladder with at least one hand. One of numerous feasible and useful methods for correcting this hazard would be to require employees to hold onto the ladder with at least one hand while carrying boxes up or down ladders. The employer will continue to observe Meijer safety training topics concerning lifting. No additional abatement information is required for this item.
