Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a piece of earthmoving equipment being worked on that was not properly blocked or cribbed: Northeast Corner of Coldbrook and Logistic Roads - A mechanic was removing the rollers from a Link Belt 5800 excavator that was not properly blocked or cribbed as prescribed by the manufacturer. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method correct this hazard is to use wooden blocks with the proper working length according to the manufacturer's manual.
