Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to suspended loads held by overhead hoists that were not
periodically inspected:
a)Shop area, Center of shop;  Employees were exposed to the hazard of being
struck by falling load, such as metal grease bins and brake drums, from an
overhead electric hoist.  The company did not have the 1 ton Yale underhung
hoist inspected on a periodic basis (at least every twelve months) since
it was
installed approximately 2 years ago to determine wear, deterioration and
malfunction as per ANSI B30.16-1.
One method of abatement, among others, would be to have this electric
hoist inspected on a
periodic bases (at least every twelve months) as required by ANSI B30.16-1.
