Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The unguarded lower half of the scrap chain conveyor for the Newman Whitney Double End Trim Saw exposed workers to the potential of laceration and amputation injuries. Among others, one feasible method of correcting this hazard is to guard, cover or prevent access to the lower half of the chain as indicated in Section 6.3 of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) ASME B20.1, Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
