Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to multiple injuries or death from a fall hazard when standing on a board placed on the midrails on a scissor lift: Employees were exposed to multiple injuries and death hazards created by improper use of a scissor lift that was not used in accordance with the American National Safety Standard for Self Propelled Work Platforms ANSI/SIA A 92.6-1990,sec 7.11.1: Personnel shall maintain a firm footing on the platform floor while working thereon. (a) At the west side of the building, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 23 feet during the process of welding a bracket when standing on a 2x8 placed on a midrail of the scissor lift. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct these hazard are to use alternate methods such as using a Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platform with harness and lanyard attached or raise the scissor lift up higher. No Abatement Certification or Abatement Documentation required.tion
