Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to slip/trip/fall hazards from steps, service surfaces and handles not being properly cleaned from oil, dirt or ice. Jobsite: On August 27, 2001, an employee fell from the Akerman EC420 excavator #11, which was not properly cleaned from oil, causing serious injury. A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard, among other methods, is to follow the "few simple service rules" listed on page 57 in the VME Akerman EC420 operators instruction manual.tion
