Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by the load: a)Saw Department, on or about 5/13/02: Structural supports for overhead hoist systems used for lifting materials including but not limited to; forging stock. 1)Support structures were not labeled with the maximum load capacity. 2)Support structures were not designed to withstand the loads and forces imposed by the hoist. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement is to: 1). Label rated load capacity on support structure as per ASME B30.16-1987. 2). Request a qualified person to inspect the installation of the support structures to ensure they will withstand imposed loads for the hoist system being used, as per ASME B30.16-1987. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
