Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a moving overhead crane: a) Scale Pit (Crane 101) - Procedures and/or controls were not in place to assure awareness by persons attempting to board the crane that it was safe to do so (on or about 01/03/03). ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to implement a status light system as described in the BETHLEHEM CRANE TRAINING MANUAL for Coatesville and Conshohocken.
