Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to fire, burns, and inhalation hazards:
On or about December 20, 2002, employee preforming a routine check of the
hot and cold air
dampers, located on the mezzanine level in unit 2, was exposed to fire and
explosion hazards
when an excess amount of heated air ruptured the blow out plate.  The
heated air, approximatley
600 degrees fahrenheit, was vented inside the building. Employees were
exposed to hazards
associated with fire, burns, and inhalation.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
Install hot air duct that will not 'blow out' when exposed to unusual or
extreme pressures, or
provide exterior venting for the hot air as referenced in ANSI B31.1 -
1977 American National
Standard Power Piping.
29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at the
time of
inspection, no certification is required.tion
