Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: On or about September 19, 2002, employees of General Motors Powertrain were exposed to the hazard of steam burns as steam line gaskets in department #334 of the aluminum plant failed causing steam to escape from the flanges. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: Install appropriate steam line gaskets in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
