General-duty citation text
THE CITATIONS ISSUED ON JUNE 17, 2002, ARE HEREBY AMENDED TO READ: Section 50-9-5(A), NMSA 1978 (New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Act): Every employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. Employees are exposed to the hazard of working on the monkeyboard without a geronimo line or other means of escape in case of an emergency. One feasible and acceptable abatement method includes but is not limited to the provisions of API Recommended Practices for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations, Paragraph 5.7.1. The paragraph requires an auxiliary escape line or Geronimo Line which is a specially rigged and securely anchored escape line attached to the derrick or mast so as to provide a ready and convenient means of escape prior to personnel working in the derrick.
