Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire/explosion: On or about July 1, 2003, at this establishment, employees were exposed to the possible rupture of natural gas lines which could result in an explosion or fire. The gas lines on the perimeter of the two kilns (K-7 and K10) were exposed to possible damage from forklift traffic and trash dumpsters. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement include steel guards sufficient to stop the forklift from interception with the gas lines, particularly those attached to the kilns.
