North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina: The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees in that employees
were exposed to:
facility - hoists support structure - tubular steel, wheeled hoists frame
for
lifting the boat molds, hulls
and superstructure was not designed to withstand the loads and forces
imposed by the parts being lifted.
Reference: ANSI B30.16-1.3.2.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to procure a
structural engineering certification for the load rating of the hoists
frame and wheeled structure.
b)facility - periodic and documented inspections of all hoist systems to
include the connecting frame,
trolleys, hoist with components and below the hook lifting devices were
not conducted by a designated
person. Reference ANSI B30.16, section 16-2.1, paragraph b 2.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to designate a
qualified to conduct the periodic inspections and document the results of
such inspections.
