Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards: On or about June 14, 2003, on the south side of the seed warehouse, an employee operating the Aaladin pressure washer was unprotected from the hazards of electrical shock, due to that fact that a ground fault circuit interrupter was not utilized. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement includes, but is not limited to installing a ground fault circuit interrupter on the pressure washer in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, National Electric Code (NEC), 2002 Edition which states the following in Article 422 - Appliances: 422.29 High Pressure Spray Washers. All single phase cord and plug connected high pressure spray washing machines rated at 250 volts or less shall be provided with factory installed ground fault circuit interrupter protection for personnel. The ground fault circuit interrupter shall be an integral part of the attachment plug or shall be located in the supply cord within 300 mm (12 in.) of the attachment plug. ***THIS ITEM REQUIRES DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT***
