Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about March 3, 2004 , Titan Wheel Corporation of Illinois employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by gutter bands that could not stand on their own between the Post Press/Rounder/Flattener and the Butt Welder, and between the Butt Welder and grinder position in department 442, line 424. Among other feasible and acceptable means of abatement methods to correct this hazard includes: 1.Use of a cart to support and assist in the movement of the gutter bands between work stations. 2.Install of a new hoist or crane that would eliminate rolling the gutter band and allow the employees to reach all of the different machines on line 424. 3.Install a monorail system with a material handling device that will eliminate the rolling of the gutter bands on line 424. 4.Install a conveyor system on or below the floor level that would allow parts to be safely moved with an automated trolley. ***THIS ITEM REQUIRES DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT***
