Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to severe burn injuries from the potential dust explosion that could have resulted from, or have been exacerbated by, the location of the dust collector inside of the building and the failure of the ventilation system to have an isolation device upstream from the dust collectors: a) Saw Department - The enclosureless dust collector that was used to collect dust generated by machinery in the department was located inside the building; on or about March 20, 2008. b) Saw Department - The ductwork located upstream from the dust collector was operated without isolation devices to prevent deflagration propagation from the collectors upstream through the ventilation system; on or about March 20, 2008. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS INCLUDES FOLLOWING NFPA 654, STANDARD FOR THE PREVENTION OF FIRE AND DUST EXPLOSIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURING, PROCESSING, AND HANDLING OF COMBUSTIBLE PARTICULATE SOLIDS, 2006 EDITION, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: LOCATE THE DUST COLLECTOR OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND INSTALL AN ISOLATION DEVICE SUCH AS AN ISOLATION VALVE, FLAME DIVERTER, OR CHEMICAL SUPPRESSION SYSTEM. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
