Condition:The eyewash station provided where employees worked with carbide
lime, a corrosive material, with a pH > 12 had no water flow or the
water had been turned off due to a frozen water valve.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard
is to repair the plumbing to restore water flow to the eyewash station and
to inspect the
eyewash regularly to ensure it is in operable condition at all times.
The proposed penalty for this item has been reduced by 50for effective
and efficient
abatement during the inspection.
