Section 5(a)(1): Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. The end of the geronimo line did not have a proper wire rope termination on the anchor. The wire rope was frayed and had several broken strands. The thimble was twisted and attached to a shackle. The geronimo line is used as a means of emergency egress from the monkey board for the derrickman. Breaking of the wire rope when a load is applied may cause a fall hazard if the geronimo line is used. A feasible abatement method is to put on a proper termination for the wire rope and inspect the wire rope on the geronimo line periodically.
