Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of fire and explosion from the ignition of combustible dusts that are carried and collected by dust collection systems : a) BUILDING #8, THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEMS SERVICING OPERATIONS THAT INVOLVE COMBUSTIBLE PHENOLIC RESINS WERE NOT EQUIPPED WITH ADEQUATE SAFEGUARDS TO MINIMIZE FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO INSTALL EXPLOSION PROTECTIVE DEVICES ON DUST COLLECTORS AND ISOLATION DEVICES IN THE SYSTEMS EXHAUST DUCT WORK TO PREVENT DEFLAGRATION PROPAGATION FROM DUST COLLECTORS TO WORK AREAS.
