Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm employment in that employees were exposed to fire from aluminum powder blended with stearic acid being ignited: a)Polisher Room# 1: An employee loading the polisher with aluminum powder(#807) received burns when the material ignited during loading, on or about 6/26/03. Abatement Method: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the static electricity control measure outlined in NFPA 651-1998 (Machining and Finishing of Aluminum and the Production and Handling of Aluminum powder). THE U.S. ALUMINUM, INC., WAS PREVIOUSLY CITED FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARD OR ITS EQUIVALENT STANDARD WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN OSHA INSPECTION 305069387, CITATION 01, ITEM 001(a), ISSUED ON 11/13/2002, WITH RESPECT TO A WORKPLACE LOCATED AT 86 4TH AVE, HASKELL, NJ 07420.
