General-duty citation text
Section 88.4 - Code of Iowa (2003) 88.4: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)Facility Wide - The employer having employees exposed to hazardous chemicals in the facility had no Material Safety Data Sheets available when an employee was severely burned with a liquid drain cleaner called "Liquid Fire". The employer had no procedures to handle a spill or severe burn. The employee was left to try and wash themselves in a very small sink in a break room instead of using a large sink in the backroom. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet near the chemicals and have procedures on hand in the handling of an emergency. This condition was noted on July 17, 2003.
