Public Law 91-596 Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees in that they were subjected to the rotation of high speed metal bar round stock when automatically fed into bar straighteners. Instance A: Mill Products Dept. - Operators of bar straightener No. 3 were not protected from high speed rotating bars fed into the point of operation and leaving the point of operation. CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION Instance B: Mill Products Dept. - Operators of bar straightener No. 2 were not protected from high speed rotating bars fed into the point of operation and leaving the point of operation. CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION Instances C, D, E: Mill Products Dept. - The ends of funnels for Macaw Nos. 1, 2 and 3 were broken allowing round metal bars to spin out of concentricity. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM Among other methods a feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct these hazards is to instruct and train workers on safe work procedures before the operation of this machinery by employees covered by ANTI B.19 4.4 and ensure adequate supervision that correct operating procedures are being followed.
