Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with: The flame cutting of unsupported I-beams. Location: The Charlestown Navy shipyard. 1. The employee was seriously injured when a section of the I-beam that he was flame cutting fell over on to the employee breaking his leg and pinning him to the ground. Among other methods, One feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to brace the sections of the I-beams being cut to prevent them from falling over.ng
