Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment
which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely
to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to crushing hazards created by the vertical
reciprocating conveyer.
Shipping Dock:  Comprehensive guards on the right and left hand
sides with an electrically interlocked gate on the front were not
provided to protect employees from the hazards of being crushed
between the platform and the floor or between the platform and the
stairs and landing.
Feasible and acceptable means of abatement include installing
comprehensive guards on both the left and right hand side with an
electrically interlocked gate on the first floor.
